The South Asia region has witnessed many changes in the recent years that have affected the countries of the region and beyond. Pakistan’s location in a multifaceted region, as well as its proximity to South Asia, Central Asia, the Middle East and China, as an emerging power, has brought a special geopolitical position for the country with numerous opportunities and challenges. This study will analyze Pakistan's position in the region and investigates the county's relations with other important regional countries as well as world powers. It will also analyze Pakistan’s geostrategic role in the new regional order.

The South Asia region has witnessed many changes in recent years that have affected the countries of the region and beyond. Pakistan’s location in a multifaceted region, as well as its proximity to South Asia, Central Asia, the Middle East and China, as an emerging power, has brought a special geopolitical position for the country with numerous opportunities and challenges.
Despite the emergence of a new balance of power in South Asia (the formation of the China-Pakistan bloc versus the US-India bloc), Pakistan does not want to be recognized as a member of a particular bloc. The country rather seeks to satisfy both power blocs as much as possible. Therefore, Islamabad wants to establish a deep alliance with China while maintaining its relations with the United States in order to be able to enjoy some degree of cooperation with Washington. Moreover, Pakistan is not willing to lose its relations with the Arab countries due to its ties with Iran and vice versa (at least in the short and medium term), and seeks to maintain a kind of balance in its regional relations in a bid to secure its political and economic interests.
